WHITE's & BLOODWORTH's GLOUCESTERSHIRE

St George's Church, Cam, Gloucestershire

For those of you who are tracing the surname of White in Gloucestershire ~ be warned!

There are a lot of families with the same name in the area and they are not all connected. My ancestors originate (as far as I know at present) from the Dursley area of Gloucestershire. I have managed to trace as far back as JOSEPH WHITE and EDITH to c. 1734 in Upper Cam (see above picture of church)

JOSEPH was a thatcher by trade and he and EDITH had 7 children:

BETTY (baptised 1770)
ESTHER (baptised 1772)
JOSEPH (baptised 1774)
ELIZABETH (baptised 1786)
JOHN (baptised 1788)
ANN (baptised 1789)
HENRY (baptised 1790)

Note: the marriage of Joseph & Edith has still not been found, if they marrid at all!  The search continues............

Above  is HARRIET WHITE (nee BLOODWORTH see further down for info.) who married CHARLES WHITE, gt grandson of JOSEPH & EDITH ~ This picture was taken in 1888

CHARLES and HARRIET married 20 Nov 1843 in Cam, Gloucestershire and had 4 children:

ARABELLA (born 14 Apr 1842, Uley, Glos.)
JOHN HENRY (born 7 Dec 1845, Cam, Glos.)
CHARLES (born 6 Nov 1848, Cam, Glos.) 
PIERCE WILLIAM (born 13 Jun 1862, Cam, Glos.)

MARRIAGES OF THE ABOVE:

ARABELLA married ALBERT SMETHAM 30 Aug 1863 in St John the Baptist, Gloucester, Glos. & had 4 children: Ada, Albert, Charles & Maud E.M.

JOHN married EMILY RACHAEL HOLTON 23 May 1867 in All Saint's, St John's Wood, Marylebone & had 3 children: Emily Harriet, John William & Louise

CHARLES married SUSANNAH PULLIN Jul 1875 in St Mark's Church, New Swindon, Wilts. & had 5 children: Charles Frederick, Ellen (my gt grandmother), Henry James, Lucy Lillian & Edward Louis.

PIERCE WILLIAM married ELLEN HILL 19 Mar 1887 in Lower Cam, Glos. & only had 2 children: Emma Elura & Doris May.



THE AMERICAN BRANCH

A branch of the White's emigrated to the USA in 1904. 
Below is CHARLES FREDERICK WHITE and LAVINIA PULLEN (first cousins).
They married 24 May 1902 in The Parish Church, Camden Town, Pancras & had 3 children:

CHARLES FREDERICK (born 22 May 1904)
RICHARD (born 28 Aug 1907, Wayland, Steuben Co. New York)
WILLIAM EDWARD (born 4 Mar 1915, Springwater, Livingstone, NY)

BLOODWORTH'S

This part of the family starts with HARRIET BLOODWORTH (picture above). She was born 1819 in Uley, Gloucestershire & died 28 Nov 1893 in the Union Workhouse, Cam, Gloucestershire. Why she was in the Workhouse I have never been able to find out as the records do not exist anymore. It is a strange one as she did have living children when she died.

HARRIET's parents were JOSEPH BLOODWORTH (b. 1792 Uley) (d. 1878) & HANNAH TROTMAN (b. 1790 North Nibley, Glos.) (d. 1878 Dursley, Glos.) who married 18 Aug 1816 Berkeley Parish Church, Berkeley, Glos. Joseph did quite well for himself as he was a Farmer with 13 acres in the 1851 Census.

They had 6 known children inc. HARRIET:

DANIEL (b. 1822)
PHILIP (b. 1825 Uley)
JOSEPH (b. 1829)(d. 1903)
CHARLOTTE (b. 1833 Uley)



MARRIAGES OF ABOVE:

CHARLES married ANN(surname unknown) (date unknown) & had 4 known children: Jasper, Comfort,Joanna & Noah all born in Uley.

PHILIP married ANN JOBBINS 13 May 1850 in the Cam Meeting House, Cam & had 8 children: Dorcas, Joseph, Hannah, Bertha, Harriet, Cordelia, Ann & Ada.

JOSEPH married SARAH (surname unknown) & had one known child: William Joseph.

CHARLOTTE married WILLIAM BAGLIN 8 Mar 1857 in Bristol & had 8 children: Albert, Rosa Beatrice, Nugent Nigel, Orde, John, Nigel John, Martin & Amelia Charlotte.



Note: I have a lot of information on the Bloodworth clan, but as some of it is so old, I am in the process of updating & double-checking it. I am also in contact with some Bloodworth descendants, inc. Bloodworth's in Australia.
